Health Insurance by Race/Ethnicity, Research Brief 42 is now available on our website at:

http://www.ofm.wa.gov/researchbriefs/default.asp

This brief examines both the presence and source of health insurance by race and ethnicity using the 2006 Washington State Population Survey (WSPS). Whites, Blacks, and Native Hawaiian/Other Asian Pacific Islanders all had similar rates of uninsurance. Asians were significantly less likely to be uninsured and American Indians/Alaska Natives were significantly more likely to be uninsured compared to Whites. Hispanics, compared to non-Hispanics, were more likely to be uninsured, more likely to be publicly insured, and less likely to have health insurance through the military, and employer or a union.
