Message from the Executive Director

Welcome, and thank you for visiting the website of the Washington State Human Rights Commission. As the Commission’s new Executive Director, I am honored to serve the people of Washington and to help advance our mission of promoting and protecting civil rights throughout our state. Since beginning my tenure on May 18, 2026, I have approached this role with a deep respect for public service and a commitment to ensuring the Commission remains accessible, responsive, and accountable to the communities we serve.

I believe public service is both a privilege and a responsibility. Guided by a commitment to excellence, integrity, and fairness, I am dedicated to fostering a culture that values respect, collaboration, and meaningful service delivery.

I look forward to working alongside our staff, community partners, and the people of Washington as we continue advancing fairness, equity, and equal opportunity throughout our state. It is an honor to serve in this capacity.

Sincerely,

Barbara Harris
