If you previously filed a non-housing discrimination complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and would like the Washington State Human Rights Commission (WSHRC) to continue the investigation, please be aware of the following:

Because your complaint was initially filed with the EEOC, WSHRC closed its duplicate file to avoid duplication of effort and conserve state resources. The EEOC has already begun investigating your complaint, and it is the appropriate agency to continue that work.

At this time, WSHRC cannot reopen or assume investigations that are already in progress with the EEOC.

The EEOC has indicated that, during the federal government shutdown, charging parties will not lose their right to pursue discrimination complaints. Once federal operations resume, you can reasonably expect the EEOC to continue processing your case.
