A form is not required to submit a public records request, but is available if you want to use it: Records Request Form (pdf)

*Requests received after 5:00 PM on weekdays, or received on weekends or state holidays, will be considered received the following working day.

What to Include

Include the following so that we can respond or contact you to ask for clarification if necessary:

  • Your name, address, and telephone number or email address.
  • A description of the record(s) requested.
    • Your request must be for a specific, identifiable record or series of records as defined by the Washington State Public Records Act (RCW 42.56). Please include all information that could help fulfill this request, including specific details about the record(s) you are requesting (e.g., key terms, titles, names, subjects, or document categories). Limiting your request may speed up processing time and reduce any associated fees (charged in accordance with WAC 162-04-037).

(1) The state general records retention schedule and the department's unique records retention schedule, as established and approved by the state records committee, serve as the index for the identification and location of the department's records, including those described in RCW 42.56.070(5).

 

 

05 File a Complaint online

Statute of Limitations: Under RCW 49.60, a complaint must be filed within six (6) months of the alleged unfair practice(s), with the following exceptions:

  • Housing complaints and Pregnancy-Related Employment complaints must be filed within one (1) year from the date of the alleged unfair practice.
  • State Employee Whistleblower Retaliation complaints must be filed within two (2) years from the date of the alleged unfair practice.

* A complaint must be filed, fall within our limited jurisdiction, be drafted into a Perfected Charge by WSHRC investigator, and be signed by the complainant – all within the six-month statute of limitations to protect your filing rights.
